EDITORIAL
We are delighted to circulate this new issue of the AFORNET
Newsletter. The proto-newsletter was circulated electronically
in PDF format. Several AFORNET stakeholders did not have the
Acrobat Reader; hence they were unable to open the PDF file.
It is against this background that the E-Bulletin has been
downsized and produced in Microsoft Word format focusing primarily
on AFORNET main activities. It would have been circulated
early. However due to some unforeseen reason it has not been
circulated as per schedule. That reason is now behind us and
we hope to publish the Newsletter on quarterly basis.
We would like this Newsletter to be a vehicle to inform our
stakeholder on the appropriation of research grants by AFORNET
Board. It will also serve as an avenue for highlighting the
activities of the AFORNET Secretariat as well as its three
eco-regional nodes. We would also like this newsletter to
become a tribune and an interactive medium for scientists
to air their views and opinions on forest research and education
in Africa as well as on leading issues appertaining to sustainable
forest management in Africa. We therefore invite our readers
to send their views and comments or any article they would
like to share with their peer forest scientists and other
end-users. These will be published under the Scientist’s
Forum section
We wish you a pleasant reading and look forward to your feedback.
