  • IUFRO
    IUFRO is a non-profit, non-governmental international network of forest scientists. Its objectives are to promote international cooperation in forestry and forest products research. IUFRO's activities are organized primarily through its 274 specialized Units in 8 technical Divisions.

    CIFOR is an international research and global knowledge institution committed to conserving forests and improving the livelihoods of people in the tropics. CIFOR's high impact research helps local communities and small farmers gain their rightful share of forest resources, while increasing the production and value of forest products.
  • ETFREN
    Established in 1991, the European Tropical Forest Research Network (ETFRN) is a forum for communication between European organisations, researchers, EU institutions and others concerned with (sub-)tropical forest research. The ETFRN Network seeks to promote the involvement of European research expertise towards the conservation and wise use of forests and woodlands in tropical and subtropical countries.
  • IFS
    IFS is an NGO providing support to developing country scientists to conduct, in a developing country, relevant and high quality research on the management, use, and conservation of biological resources and their environment. IFS believes that the interests of both science and development are best served by promoting and nurturing the research efforts of young science graduates, who are at the beginning of their research careers.
  • FAO
    The FAO Forestry Department helps nations manage their forests in a sustainable way. The Organization’s approach balances social, economic and environmental objectives so that present generations can reap the benefits of the earth’s forest resources while preserving them to meet the needs of future generations. In assisting member countries to conserve and utilize their forest and tree resources sustainably, FAO works in partnership with governments, international organizations and agencies, non-governmental groups, the private sector, communities and individuals.
  • IPGRI
    IPGRI is an international research institute with a mandate to advance the conservation and use of genetic diversity for the well-being of present and future generations. It is a Centre of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).
  • ISNAR
    ISNAR's mission is to help bring about innovation in agricultural research institutions in developing countries to increase the contribution of research to agricultural development for the poor.
  • Tropenbos
    Tropenbos International (TBI) is non governmental organization (NGO). TBI head office is based in the Netherlands. To meet the needs of policy makers and forest users, Tropenbos International facilitates the formulation and organisation of participatory, objective-oriented and multidisciplinary research and development programmes.
  • IFAD
    IFAD was created to mobilize resources on concessional terms for programmes that alleviate rural poverty and improve nutrition. Unlike other international financial institutions, which have a broad range of objectives, the Fund has a very specific mandate: to combat hunger and rural poverty in developing countries. Under the terms of the Strategic Framework for IFAD 2002-2006, the Fund will continue to work towards enabling the rural poor to overcome poverty – as perceived by the poor themselves – by fostering social development, gender equity, income generation, improved nutritional status, environmental sustainability and good governance.

  • Global Forest Watch Global Forest Watch is an initiative of the World Resources Institute. World Resources Institute is an independent nonprofit organization with a staff of more than 100 scientists, economists, policy experts, business analysts, statistical analysts, mapmakers, and communicators working to protect the Earth and improve people's lives.
  • The World Forestry Center The World Forestry Center educates people about the world's forests and trees, and their importance to all life, in order to promote a balanced and sustainable future.
  • The World Agroforestry Centre The World Agroforestry Centre is one of a network of 16 Future Harvest centres located throughout the developing world. Their mission is to improve human welfare by reducing poverty, improving food and nutritional security, and enhancing environmental resilience in the tropics.
